Who we are

Ruru tiny homes specialises in tiny homes on wheels, built ethically and sustainably, in New Zealand.

We design and create all our tiny homes on site, using locally sourced materials in a responsible manner. Much like the native Ruru owl, we aim to provide a design that is small, but very smart. Our goal is not to create a tiny home, it is to create a home, on a tiny footprint.

All our ruru tiny homes are timber-framed, fully insulated, and double-glazed. They are built by skilled and qualified LBPs and Carpenters, who deliver a high quality, durable finish. We support the community by employing locals and training up apprentices. We believe in ethical leadership and provide an above average living wage, whilst encouraging a healthy work environment, both physically and mentally.

At ruru tiny homes we can support your dream of home ownership in an otherwise difficult New Zealand market. We can also help you find land for your tiny home. We’ve developed and grown an incredible landshare community, where we connect landowners with tiny home owners, for long term lease opportunities.

Where you’ll find us

Ruru tiny homes operates from two yards, conveniently located in New Zealand’s sunniest spots. Ruru Headquarters in Motueka and Whangārei makes for low transport costs to any area in the country.

We recognise it isn’t sustainable to build homes in the South Island, only to have them transported to the Far North. So after our initial growth phase in Motueka, we seized the opportunity to create a local branch up North in Whangārei, to grow the business and support the local building industry there.

The Motueka branch is in demand and is steadily providing tiny homes for the entire South Island, and wider Wellington region. Whilst Whangārei is an amazing location to support all customers further North, allowing us to keep our ecological footprint preferably low.
