How it Works

Your build journey
Getting a tiny home isn't like buying a appliance. For most of our clients it's a significant life decision — and often the start of something new. We've walked this road with hundreds of Kiwis and we know the questions, the uncertainty, and the excitement that comes with it. Our job isn't just to build your home. It's to make sure the whole journey feels clear, supported, and genuinely good.
Not sure where to put it?
Before anything else, you need land. If you don't have a site yet, that's not a barrier — it's just where we start. Ruru runs its own in-house land search and match service, connecting clients with landowners across New Zealand who are open to leasing. Tell us roughly where you want to be and we'll get to work. This service is free to all Ruru clients.
Initial enquiry
1
Get in touch with Fran — by phone, email, or the contact form. We'll have a relaxed conversation about what you're looking for, your land situation, your timeline, and your budget. No pressure, no sales pitch. If land is part of the conversation, we'll start there too.
Design selection
2
Choose from our range of six designs or start a conversation about a fully custom build.
Deposit and build schedule
3
Once you're ready to proceed, a deposit secures your place in the build schedule. We'll confirm your timeline and keep you updated with photos throughout the build process.
Build and handover
4
Your home is built by hand in our Tasman workshop by skilled tradespeople paid fair wages. When it's ready, we arrange delivery nationwide and walk you through everything on handover day.
After handover
5
We don't disappear after delivery. Fran is personally available for questions after handover, and we stand behind every Ruru home we build. If you're a North Island client, your extra freight was already offset — but our support after the fact costs nothing either. We're a small team that builds homes for the long term, and that includes the relationship.
Still not sure? If you're ready to take the next step but want to see a Ruru home in person first — we'll fly you to our Tasman yard. Just ask.
